The Truth Hurts Podcast
Someone hurts you, and within a second you're already answering back, sharp, sure of yourself, without thinking twice. It feels like strength, like you're not letting anyone walk all over you. But the way Gili sees it, that is exactly the moment you hand your control to the other person, because now they are the one deciding what happens inside you, and you aren't. There is one short, almost unnoticeable second, and the real choice lives inside it: to stop, and to choose a different response.

You've probably heard it more than once: let time do its thing. But if years have gone by and the pain is still there, maybe the problem isn't that not enough time has passed. The way Gili sees it, time doesn't heal anything on its own. All it does is open an opportunity to choose to do the work ourselves. Without that choice you can carry pain for twenty years and stay at exactly the point where you started.

You check and you check again, you plan out every scenario, you try to know in advance how things are going to turn out, and you still don't feel any calmer. According to Gili, that is no accident: the bigger the need to know, the bigger the anxiety, because anxiety is really a troubled relationship with certainty. The solution she offers isn't the intuitive one. Don't run from the thing that frightens you. Do it again and again, until your own confidence beats the fear.

You reach the end of the day exhausted, and you don't really know why, because you didn't do anything out of the ordinary. According to Gili, this isn't exhaustion from hard work. It's exhaustion from constantly resisting notifications and small temptations, which drain the prefrontal cortex, and that part of the brain works like a battery with a limited daily budget. Our brain is built to chase uncertainty far more than pleasure, and the way she sees it, that is exactly what the apps take advantage of with every notification. And there is a genuinely surprising family history behind the man who built the industry that does this to us.

You say yes when what you want is to scream no, and you call it kindness. Gili calls it by its real name: fear. Fear of losing people, which she says is what ends up making you lose yourself. And the anger that never comes out doesn't disappear. It turns into self-criticism, into guilt, and sometimes into illness.

You have people around you, maybe even a lot of them, and something inside still feels empty. That isn't a contradiction. According to Gili, loneliness isn't a question of how many people are around you. It's a sense of disconnection and a lack of emotional intimacy, and it can exist in the middle of a crowd. The way she sees it, the price of it isn't only emotional. She cites studies that compare the damage to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and that even show an effect on how our genes express themselves. It also explains something that may have happened to you in the past: why meeting one particular person felt like your whole head was spinning, when what was actually happening was a flood of dopamine your body was starving for.

You're in that dark place again, and it feels like a sign that something is wrong with you. Gili, an Emotional Healer, says it's exactly the opposite: the pain is a necessary part of the process, not an obstacle on the way to it. The way she sees it, there's a difference between pain and suffering. Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is a choice, and accepting reality is the way out of it. She also talks about how your self-worth doesn't need any proof from the outside, and how starting to feel the thing you want before it has even happened gives it a better chance of becoming real.

You can quote what they taught you in school, but when was the last time you asked whether it's true? The way Gili sees it, the same hand that shaped our education system also shaped the medicine we trust without a second thought, and the money in our pockets. This isn't a conspiracy theory. It's documented history, from Rockefeller to today. The question isn't who is to blame. It's how you start thinking again and listening to your own inner voice.

You look at your balance and feel that something is off. Not only the number, but the sense that you're not supposed to ask for more. According to Gili, that block usually isn't really about money at all. It's about worthiness, and the way she sees it, it starts back in the relationship with your mother. As she reads it, the Hebrew word for money, kesef, is connected to kisufim, longing and wanting, and she suggests looking at money blocks through one more question: how much do we allow ourselves to ask, to receive and to enjoy? Instead of abundance mantras she offers something simpler. Look at your balance even when it hurts, and turn every expense into an insight about what you got in return.

You're having a conversation with yourself all day long, and you probably don't notice how much of your life it decides. According to Gili, the way you speak to yourself doesn't stay at the level of thought. It physically changes your brain, and through that, everything that happens in your life. You have no control over what happens outside you, only over your own response, and that's where all your energy should go. The insecurity you feel doesn't come from what other people really think of you either. It comes from your own fear of what you think about yourself.
