The conversation

Everything feels like it's caving in, and you have every reason in the world to say you've had enough and stop. According to Gili, that is exactly the moment most people do stop, and the person who keeps going right there is the one who sets themselves apart from everyone else. She explains why failure isn't a sign that something went wrong but a necessary part of the road, and why what happened to you in the past says nothing about you now. From there she moves to the question of how you build real self-worth, the kind that doesn't depend on something somebody once told you.

The truth

  • The moment you most want to quit is the exact point where 99 percent of people drop out, and pushing through right there is what sets you apart from all of them.

  • Society is built like a pyramid, most people at the bottom and very few at the top, so anyone who wants to get far sometimes has to do the exact opposite of what everyone else is doing.

  • Failure isn't an accident along the way, it's a necessary part of the process. Anyone who has never failed has never really tried, and we learn only from our falls, never from our wins.

  • What happened to you in the past says nothing about you now. You're not your history. You're who you are in this moment.

  • Real self-worth can't be handed to you from the outside, not even by the compliments you got as a child. It's earned only by actually facing hardship.

  • When something bad happens, the tool is to remember that it comes from the Creator and that it is only ever for your good, and that if you don't learn the lesson, the same situation will come back again and again.

Questions and answers

How do I actually build real self-worth?

You can't buy it and you can't be given it as a gift, not even through compliments you got as a child. Self-worth is earned only by actually facing hardship, something you earn honestly in your own eyes, which is why the hard moments are the opportunity to build it rather than an obstacle in your way.

What are two really practical things I can do to finally feel as strong as Superman, instead of feeling like what I went through still runs me?

The two main tools are to stop reacting to everything, and to take nothing personally. The moment you stop reacting and stop letting events stir you up, you stop giving them the fuel to keep affecting you, and that's how you keep your peace of mind and stay focused on your own goals instead of being thrown by every challenge that comes up.

Why do I feel that every time someone hurts me, it's because something is wrong with me?

Anyone who hurts me is a messenger from the Creator inviting me to heal traumas that are already inside me, from childhood, for example. The pain you feel now is usually not really about the current event. It's about old traumas waking up again, which is why there's no point in being angry at the person.

Gili's original episode description

Every one of us wants to be a superhero.

So where's the problem?

The problem is that we think being a superhero is impossible, and that's exactly where we go wrong.

Because the truth is, we absolutely can.

This episode is here to break that belief.

And of course it's full of tips and tools that will help every one of you become a superhero, if you're willing.

It's true that things are hard in Israel right now. That's exactly why we need to step up and become superheroes.

Don't lose heart.
