The conversation

You're living by a script somebody else wrote for you: your parents, society, the fear of what people will say. You promise yourself things and you don't always keep those promises, and without noticing it that eats away at your confidence. According to Gili Man Wolner, this is exactly what happens to most people. They aren't living their own real nature, they're wearing other people's expectations. Here she explains why that happens, and how to start finding your way back to yourself.

The truth

  • Authenticity is the highest energetic vibration a person can reach, higher even than love.

  • Most people aren't really themselves. They're wearing pieces, shadows and dreams that belong to other people.

  • The brain works like a transmitter and receiver, according to Tesla, so the important question is what information you're exposed to for most of the day.

  • Between social media, WhatsApp and the news, most people are left with zero quiet in which to notice who they actually are.

  • Authenticity is mostly about giving up the need to prove. Real success is letting go of the need to feel worth something.

  • Growing up means taking full responsibility for your life without blaming anyone, because playing the victim has a price.

Questions and answers

What does being authentic mean the way Gili sees it?

In the episode, authenticity means bringing the real version of yourself, your original form, into expression in reality. That's the purpose: that each person should discover their own true nature, instead of wearing pieces, shadows and ambitions that belong to other people.

Why can't I just stop thinking about something bad?

The human mind doesn't handle negation easily. When you order it not to think about something, it focuses on exactly that. If you try not to think about a blue lion, chances are you're thinking about one right now. So it's better to talk and think about what you want to happen, and not about what you don't want to happen.

Why do I still feel like something is missing after I talked to someone and unloaded all my anger on them?

Venting calms the unpleasant feeling in the moment, but it doesn't solve the problem itself. When you share with a friend who takes your side, you feel understood and the feeling dies down, but the root of the problem is left untreated, and that's why the situation keeps repeating itself.

Why can't I stop chasing more and more success, even when I already have everything?

Gili says that a heightened drive to keep doing, or more accurately an obsession with success, is usually an attempt to compensate for past traumas. Even someone who achieves everything in life can still feel a lack, because it's an inner, spiritual hole that material things don't fill. Deep down, what they were looking for wasn't success. It was security.

When someone in my life is hard for me to take, how am I supposed to relate to them at all?

Gili says that every time someone challenges us, it's really an invitation to deal with a part of ourselves that we haven't taken care of yet. When you understand the message and work with the trauma instead of pushing it down, you heal the heart and you understand that these events are an opportunity for an inner cleanup, not a reason to react on the spot.

Gili's original episode description

Authenticity is the highest vibration, the highest energy a person can reach. But what is authenticity? We've barely figured out love. Authenticity means bringing the real version of yourself, your original form, into expression in reality. We came here to discover ourselves. That's the purpose: that each person should discover their own true nature. The problem is that most people aren't really themselves. They're pieces and shadows and ambitions and dreams that belong to other people, which they've pulled on over themselves. They aren't always even aware of it, and that's the deepest kind of prison there is, because the best way to keep a prisoner in prison is to get him to believe that he isn't in prison. But the moment you're aware and you pay attention to your own authenticity, you raise your energetic vibration! It's a matter of attention! Nikola Tesla said that the main job of the brain is to receive information, because it works like a transmitter. Now, for heaven's sake, ask yourself what information you're exposed to for most of the day. People don't know who they are, because their heads are taken up all day with social media, WhatsApp groups, news updates, porn, addictions, music too. It doesn't have to be negative, but there's no quiet. People have gotten addicted to background noise. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as something is flickering in the background.

So if that's the situation, what chance do I have of being authentic, or of putting any attention into this thing called me, if my head is busy or full all day long? And don't even start with multitasking, because it's exactly like not being able to hear two radio stations on the same radio at the same time, and exactly like hunting for a station on the old car radio, where you'd turn the dial to pick up the frequency. It's the same in our reality. Everything exists! Everything! All the stations on the radio exist. The question is which frequency you tuned into. What your antenna picked up. And your antenna, exactly like the universe, attracts whatever you are.

Authenticity means giving up the need to prove. Real success is letting go of your need to prove that you're worth something.
