The conversation

You do everything right. Every time, you decide all over again that this time it's going to be different, and somehow you end up in exactly the same place. The way Gili sees it, that isn't chance and it isn't bad luck. It's the subconscious that was formed by the time you were seven, and out of all the options in front of you it keeps choosing only the ones it already knows. The feelings you pushed down along the way didn't disappear either. They piled up, and that's exactly what comes out later as pressure and anxiety. And even when things are hard right now, there's a good chance all of it is heading somewhere else entirely.

The truth

  • 95 percent of our lives comes from the consciousness that was formed by the age of seven, and our conscious mind takes in only about 5 percent of the information around it at any given moment.

  • Out of endless possibilities, the subconscious chooses only what it already knows, which is why we repeat the same patterns even when we want something different.

  • Our reality, the bank account, the relationships, the business, is a reflection of what sits in the subconscious, with no sentimentality about it.

  • When you suppress a feeling like sadness or envy it doesn't disappear. It accumulates, and in the end it comes out as pressure or anxiety.

  • Conscious intention changes actual results, which is what she says the hotel housekeepers study showed.

  • Faith that everything is for the good, together with the right focus on the present, is the way to break the loop of the subconscious.

Questions and answers

How can I know what's in my subconscious without going through psychological treatment?

Gili says you don't need a psychological profile for this. It's enough to look at your bank account, at your relationships or at your business. Those reflect exactly the beliefs that were burned into the subconscious, which isn't the least bit shy about showing itself right to your face.

Why do I even need to feel bad things like anger or sadness, instead of just ignoring them and moving on?

Because they don't disappear, they accumulate. Gili explains that suppressing fear, sadness or envy builds up a pressure in the brain that eventually erupts as anxiety. The feeling is a message about the root of the problem, so we have to let ourselves feel it in the body and not only think about it.

Why do I keep coming back to the same point even after I've already decided otherwise? And what does the housekeepers study prove about the power of intention?

In the study, hotel housekeepers were divided into two groups. One group was told that their work was improving them physically; the other group was told nothing. Six months later, only the group that got the explanation showed a real physical change. Gili offers it as an example that conscious intention changes results, and not only at the level of thought.

Gili's original episode description

If there's one thing that can wreck your life, it's avoiding your emotions. Everyone wants to be laid-back. We'd rather scroll past the negative feeling. We don't feel like feeling things like fear, sadness or envy, so the usual move is distraction. The problem is that all that suppression adds up into a pressure in the brain, and later on that's what makes you feel stressed or anxious. Me dumping the feeling onto my Instagram feed doesn't mean the feeling goes away. There's a reason these emotions are here. There's a message here, there's information here that you'd do well not to ignore, because it's a clue to understanding the root of the problem, and the problem is always mine.

Emotions aren't only a chemical reaction in the brain. Emotions are thoughts that turn into energy. And today that energy is measurable! Think about the word emotion: E and motion, meaning energy in motion. And that energy attracts energy like itself, because every one of us has an electromagnetic field around us.

If you want to know the secrets of the universe, start thinking in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. Nikola Tesla said that, and he was someone who understood a thing or two.

There's a thought in the mind, and out of that thought comes the feeling, and the sync or the mismatch between the two is the energetic vibration that comes off you. That's also what draws your reality toward you.

This isn't something mystical. Thoughts and emotions are measurable today. Brain waves aren't a spiritual invention, they're an existing fact. Hasn't it ever happened to you that the moment you let go of something, things worked themselves out naturally, even magically? There are no coincidences here. This is the Creator's way of signaling to you that this is how you get things in life.

The Creator answers your thoughts and your emotions, your focus. Every thought is a seed of reality. Every reaction creates reality.
