Seed vs. Egg Consciousness

Episode 40 · January 4, 2024

Consciousness and how we perceive reality

The Truth Hurts · Episode 40 · audio in Hebrew

The conversation

You asked politely for somebody to move, and instead of an answer you got "you're hysterical." There's a moment when you're still speaking quietly and politely, and somebody decides anyway that your reaction is the problem, not his behavior. The way Gili Man Wolner sees it, anger is holding a boundary without going outside yourself, while aggression is what creates the distance, and it's exactly the confusion between the two that gets women taken for hysterical when all they're doing is saying no. She invites you to look again at the moment when strangers on the sidelines see what took you a while to understand.

The truth

  • Sperm consciousness is movement and effort. It heads off in every direction, it runs, and there's no guarantee it'll get there. Egg consciousness is the opposite: everything comes to me, I sit here quietly. It's a matter of consciousness, not of gender.

  • You can see the difference even in the physical structure: the male organ is straight, the female one is round and branching and winding.

  • In the parking incident, a man who blocked her way ignored her politely twice, and when she asked him what was going on with him he answered, "What's wrong with you, are you hysterical?"

  • Women she didn't know at the cafe who saw the scene came over and told her that this is not how you talk to women, and from that moment she started to think about what had happened seriously.

  • She describes herself as a balanced person who isn't especially sensitive about gender issues, and that's exactly why it took her a while to understand that something really had happened there.

  • Forecasts for 2024 talk about a rise in feminine power as a consciousness: more people, not necessarily women, reaching positions of influence at senior levels, and a transformation that comes with it.

Questions and answers

I told him politely to move and he called me hysterical, so what's the difference between sperm consciousness and egg consciousness?

Sperm consciousness is a consciousness of effort and movement. It heads off in every direction, running and straining, and there's no guarantee it'll get there either. Egg consciousness, by contrast, is a consciousness of receiving and quiet: everything comes to me, I'll sit here and wait. It has to do with which consciousness a person is connected to, not necessarily with their gender.

Where did the word "hysteria" come from?

The word comes from the Greek word for womb. People used to believe that a woman's womb wandered to different places in the body, and that this wandering caused all kinds of ailments, like fainting, insomnia and swelling. Hysteria was considered the first mental illness described in the Western world, and it was linked only to women.

How did they used to treat women who were diagnosed as "hysterical"?

Doctors would give women a massage of the womb, which in today's language is called assisted masturbation. They understood that the moment a woman had an orgasm, the tension and the hysteria were released. Since the process took doctors a long time, the vibrator was later invented as a substitute. It was among the first and most widely sold electrical appliances for home use at the beginning of the twentieth century.

What's the difference between me being angry and me being aggressive?

Anger is guarding yourself. You're telling the other person that they crossed a line, but you stay inside yourself, and by doing that you create intimacy and engagement. Aggression, by contrast, is going outside yourself to attack and hurt the other person, and that is what creates distance between people.

I ask somebody politely to move, and he calls me hysterical. Is it always like this? Do I really need somebody to build me up for that?

No. The speaker argues that nobody needs to build anybody up, because women are wondrous and wonderful from the day they're born. She is critical of the way the younger generation dismisses the women's empowerment movement, and offers an approach in which every woman remembers the power that was in her even before she created life.

Gili's original episode description

In this episode Gili and Tal focus on the differences between masculine consciousness and feminine consciousness.

And so there's no misunderstanding: both of these consciousnesses exist in every person, man or woman.

The conversation includes a deep and intimate discussion of gender, of identity, and of understanding the complicated interactions between men and women.

They go over how sperm consciousness and egg consciousness affect thinking, emotions and behavior, and offer in-depth insights into how these can shape the personal experience of each one of us, and ours as a collective.
