Truth, lies and authenticity

The Truth Hurts · Episode 77 · audio in Hebrew

The conversation

You keep replaying the same conversation in your head, trying to work out how something that felt right yesterday doesn't feel right today. According to Gili, that's exactly the point. Every role you fill, as a mother, as an employee, as a daughter, brings a different truth with it, so there's no one formula that always holds up. From there she goes further: nobody can really hurt you. You're the one who decides that, through the way you treat yourself. At the end she offers a simple tool, the Crystal Eye (Ein HaBedolach), which helps you look at what's happening in your life without labeling everything as good or bad.

The truth

  • Every role we fill in life, child, parent, boss, employee, brings a truth of its own, which is why what feels right in one moment can change in the next.

  • Nobody can really hurt you or take anything away from your worth. You're the one hurting yourself, through the way you treat yourself.

  • Compassion is a tool for uncovering a deeper truth. Instead of replaying conversations in your head and trying to come out of them in the right, you can ask yourself whether there's a more loving truth to speak from.

  • Our task is the same for all of us: to live authentically and as ourselves. The simplest way to get there is to look at what lights us up and to act out of real passion.

  • Reality is a reflection of who we are, of our thoughts, our feelings and our habits, so real change starts on the inside and not in trying to change what's outside.

  • In the Crystal Eye method, life events are considered completely neutral, neither good nor bad, and it's our interpretation that gives them their meaning.

Questions and answers

Can other people really hurt me?

At the level of truth, nobody can actually hurt you, take anything away from your worth or treat you without respect, unless you're the one treating yourself that way, for example through a lack of love or through negative thoughts about who you are.

What's the one task we're all supposed to carry out in life?

The task is the same for every one of us: to be who we really came here to be, which means living in our own authentic and particular way. The easy way to do that is to look at what stirs up passion in you and to act on it, because a calling is something you'd be willing to do even for free.

Why is it that every time something makes me angry, it feels like it's about something else entirely and not about the thing itself?

Look closely and you'll find that the anger is a repeat of an old pain from childhood, one that keeps coming back with different people and different scenery until it gets resolved. Gili says it's a childhood trauma being switched back on in order to bring it into awareness, so that we can clear the pain and move past it.

Why do people tell me that everything that happens to me in life is neutral, neither good nor bad?

At the base of the Crystal Eye method, life events are neutral, meaning neither good nor bad, and everything depends on how you look at the event. So there's no need to react or respond to everything, because the base is neutral like Teflon, and whatever sticks to it is already your own creation.

Gili's original episode description

Life is meaningless. We're the ones who give it meaning, and the meaning we give is what comes back to us. Whether we're aware of them or not, what determines the character and the quality of our lives is our beliefs. Reality is a reflection of our beliefs. What you gave is what you got. One of the tools I love using in my practice is the Crystal Eye (Ein HaBedolach), and it's also a tool I teach in the course Bioutopia – Consciousness in Transformation (in Hebrew).

This method is really a way of life. It's like putting on glasses that show you the world a little differently. It's like doing a detox, only for the soul. At the base of this method we say that life events are neutral, meaning not good and not bad, and that everything depends on how you look at the event. Once you know that life events are neutral, there's no need to react and respond to every single thing. At the base, everything here is neutral, like Teflon. Whatever sticks to it is already your own creation.

Finding your own deepest truth means looking inward, which means you can't blame other people, you can't play the victim and you can't waste time feeling sorry for yourself. If you're brave and you go deep into it, you'll always discover that this event happened for your own good, that it genuinely made you grow, which is a powerful thing, and that at the level of the soul you called it in for exactly that reason.

There's one task for all of us here, and it's the same task: to be who we really came here to be. Which means living in our own authentic and particular way. The easy way to do that is to do what lights you up, to do the things that stir up passion in you. There's a reason people say that a calling is something you'd be willing to do even for free.
